Here, non-state secondary schools, grammar schools, Waldorf schools, Montessori schools and other independent schools can report teaching activities, apply for a teaching permit or partial professional qualification or, in special cases, submit a preliminary inquiry for a teaching permit in these types of schools.

The requirements for the training of a teacher at a private alternative school are fulfilled if evidence is provided of professional and pedagogical training and examinations that are equivalent to or of equal value to the training and examinations at the corresponding public schools (cf. legal bases).

  • The following documents are required:
    • current curriculum vitae
    • Proof of change of name, if applicable
    • Proof of the academic degrees obtained with the corresponding overview of subjects and grades/transcript of records/diploma supplement in the original language
    • If necessary, translation (except for languages of the EU, the EEA and other Slavic languages) of the certificates of the acquired academic degrees with the respective overview of subjects and grades/associated Transcript of Records/Diploma Supplement
    • extended (European) police clearance certificate (not older than three months at the time of commencement of teaching, waivable in the case of a preliminary application)
    • employment contract, signed by the teacher (not required in the case of a preliminary application)
    • in case of an assignment in the subject sports: proof of the acquisition of the German lifeguard badge in silver (not older than three years)
    • in case of an assignment in the subject sports: proof of attendance of a first aid course in the amount of 9 teaching units (not older than three years)
    • in case of an assignment in religious education: teaching license or assignment by the respective religious community (e.g. Missio Canonica, Vocatio)

The application or notification can be submitted electronically or by post to the State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

  • report a teaching activity online,
  • apply online for a teaching permit or partial professional qualification and
  • in special cases, submit a preliminary request for a teaching permit in these types of schools online.
