The Bavarian Virtual University (vhb) promotes and supports its member universities in the provision of needs-based online courses. In this way, it improves teaching and study conditions throughout Bavaria, with students who are dependent on flexibility in terms of location and time benefiting in particular. The vhb promotes lifelong learning with open, free online courses. All courses have been developed by professors at Bavarian universities and are subject to continuous quality assurance.
CLASSIC vhb courses are designed to be credited towards university studies at member universities. They enable the acquisition of ECTS points. Students at member universities can use these courses free of charge, regardless of their subject. Around 560 supervised courses from 15 subject groups are available.
The SMART vhb platform currently offers more than 2,600 online learning units. Lecturers can integrate these flexibly into their teaching, and students can also use them for self-study. In addition, the repository offers the opportunity to provide and use Open Educational Resources (OER), freely available educational materials created at Bavarian universities.
OPEN vhb courses make university knowledge on a wide range of topics freely accessible to all interested parties. More than 150 courses are available. Enrolment at a university is just as unnecessary as a university entrance qualification. The courses can be completed at your own pace, regardless of semester limits. Most courses offer a certificate of attendance after successful completion of tests. ECTS points and supervision are not provided.
Students who are enrolled at a member university of the vhb can participate in CLASSIC vhb courses free of charge. Other persons can use these for a fee, whereby admission requirements may have to be met.
There are no admission requirements for OPEN vhb.
