The municipalities can honor deserving citizens with their own awards.
The awarding of honorary citizenship by the municipal council is the municipality's highest honor.
Former mayors can be awarded the honorary title of "former mayor" or "former mayor".
Other options for honoring deserving citizens include: honorary gifts, honorary medals, honorary rings and the like.
However, every citizen can also propose the award of deserving citizen to the municipality (merits and time spent with the municipality must be presented). Those who nominate themselves cannot be considered.
In order to be awarded honorary citizenship, the person to be honored must have rendered special services to the municipality itself. These can be merits of a material or non-material nature. The requirements for other honors by the municipality are not generally defined; they can be regulated in a statute.
The districts can honor deserving citizens with their own awards.
Municipalities and districts can nominate people worthy of distinction for the Municipal Certificate of Thanks and the Municipal Medal of Merit in gold, silver or bronze, among other things, in response to suggestions from citizens.
Any citizen can propose the awarding of an honor, a medal or an award from the Free State of Bavaria and the Federal Republic of Germany to a deserving person.
