The Bavarian State Statistical Office is the central information service provider for official statistics in Bavaria. Its main tasks include the collection and processing of legally mandated statistics.

Politics and administration, business and science as well as the media require reliable statistical information on a daily basis, e.g. on wage and price trends, health and education, population trends, environmental protection, production and sales in the economy, taxes and finances of private and public households. The statistical data serves as an important basis for planning and decision-making.

The data is used by authorities and from administrative registers or obtained by surveying households and companies.

The State Office provides first-hand statistics. The data is independent, unbiased, reliable and of high quality. The statistics are available to everyone. Either via the website of the Bavarian State Statistical Office or the GENESIS-Online Bayern database. Microdata specially tailored to the needs of science can also be requested from the Research Data Center.

The President of the Bavarian State Statistical Office is also the State Election Commissioner. As the electoral body for the whole of Bavaria, he is responsible for the proper preparation, implementation and determination of the results of referendums and plebiscites as well as elections to the Bavarian State Parliament, the German Bundestag and the European Parliament.
