University of Music degree courses combine teaching and practical artistic activity to provide an education primarily geared towards artistic practice and/or pedagogy. They prepare students for a professional activity that requires the application of artistic-practical skills and pedagogical aptitude.
The universities of music provide an education that enables students to independently apply and develop academic and pedagogical methods and knowledge and to engage in artistic and practical activities. They have the right to award doctorates in musicology and music education.
Artistic training takes place, among other things
The pedagogical training serves to train music teachers at general education schools with music as a subject, music teachers at music schools and freelance teachers and ballet teachers. Additional courses in new media (computer, internet) and other areas (jazz, cultural management, etc.) complete the training program.
Information on special application requirements and admission procedures can be obtained directly from the student secretariat of the respective university.
A prerequisite for studying at a university of music is the successful completion of an aptitude and suitability test. The universities determine the details of the form, subject and duration of the examination by statute.
In addition, a general higher education entrance qualification or a general higher education entrance qualification in accordance with Section 29 of the Qualification Regulations is required for the study programs Church Music, Directing, Drama, Aural Training, Music Theory or closely related study programs. In the case of exceptional talent and aptitude, the universities may allow exceptions to this, provided that proof of at least a secondary school leaving certificate is provided.
In the degree courses for teaching at grammar schools in the double subject of music and in the degree courses for a teaching position at public schools in a subject combination with music, a general or relevant subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification, the general higher education entrance qualification in accordance with Section 29 of the Qualifications Ordinance or the subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification in accordance with Section 30 of the Qualifications Ordinance is also required.
In the case of the make-up art course, proof must also be provided of an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or completed vocational training in an artistic or skilled trade.

For degree programs with admission restrictions (Numerus Clausus), you must apply for admission to the desired degree program. Pre-registration may be required for degree programs without admission restrictions.
