The public health officer course lasts at least six months and can be taken either full-time or part-time.

After completing the public health officer training course, you will be taken on as a civil servant (depending on your personal background in A13/A14) if you meet the other requirements under civil service law.

Recruitment requirements:

  • Willingness to undertake further training as a specialist in public health, including successful completion of the public health officer course
  • Several years of clinical experience, a doctorate (Dr. med.) and a specialist title are desirable
  • Professional and personal aptitude for subsequent employment as a civil servant

Additional requirements for recruitment or employment as a civil servant are in particular

  • Health suitability
  • German citizenship or citizenship of another member state of the European Union, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland
