Marking out is generally carried out by the state surveying authorities. Statutes may stipulate that the field jurors participate in the demarcation of the properties. If boundary markers are set in the process, the field jurors shall submit their secret mark (seven-point secret). This does not relieve the authority responsible for marking out the boundary of its responsibility for the correct and proper setting of the markers.
Field jurors may search for and uncover boundary markers once they have been set if a landowner requests this.
Furthermore, field jurors may, under certain conditions, carry out demarcation acts under their own authority and responsibility:
The field jurors draw up a record of the demarcation, which itself constitutes an administrative act. This will be sent to the responsible Office for Digitization, Broadband and Surveying for safekeeping.
Applications for marking by field jurors can be sent to the respective municipality (in the case of areas not belonging to a municipality, to the respective district office) or to the responsible chairman of the field jurors. The expenses incurred (in accordance with the applicable scale of fees) will be invoiced.
The chairman of the field jury accepts reports of the loss of or damage to boundary markers and assigns the field jurors to duty. He can be contacted via the respective municipality or the district office.
At the request of the mayor, the field jurors carry out boundary inspections. The landowners are notified of any defects in boundary markers found during boundary inspections and the mayor is notified of any defects in municipal boundary markers.
