The supplementary examination is intended to determine whether the candidates have the knowledge and skills required for a degree course at a university of applied sciences, taking into account their professional training.
The Fachakademie prepares students for entry into a higher professional career through in-depth vocational and general education. It builds on an intermediate school-leaving certificate and, as a rule, on vocational training or practical work that serves the educational goal. The Fachakademie comprises at least two school years of full-time instruction. Graduates of certain courses can take a supplementary examination which, if passed, entitles them to study at a university of applied sciences.
Those who receive an overall grade of "very good" in both the final examination of the vocational academy and the supplementary examination acquire the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification. This entitles the holder to study certain courses at universities of applied sciences in accordance with the Qualifications Ordinance and the list of the assignment of certificates of subject-specific higher education entrance qualification to higher education courses.
The application for admission must be sent to the head of the academy where the examination is to be held by March 1 at the latest.
The vocational academy lasts 2 to 3 school years and prepares students for a higher professional career.
