Pharmacists; application for an EU certificate of conformity

If you have completed your training as a pharmacist in Germany and then wish to work as a pharmacist in another EU country, in many cases you will need an EU certificate of conformity.

Have you completed your training as a pharmacist in Germany and would like to work in another EU country? In this case, you will need an EU certificate of conformity. This confirms that your training as a pharmacist meets the minimum requirements of the European Union (EU).

The EU certificate of conformity makes it easier for you to have your training certificates recognized. Authorities abroad regularly require the EU certificate of conformity as part of the recognition procedure or authorization procedure for practicing the profession of pharmacist.

Application

How you apply for your EU certificate of conformity depends on when and where you obtained your qualification.

If you began your training as a pharmacist in the Federal Republic of Germany after October 1, 1987, you can apply for an EU certificate of conformity online or in writing by post to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM).

If you began your training as a pharmacist in the Federal Republic of Germany before October 1, 1987, please contact the competent state authority.

If you completed your training as a pharmacist in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), please also contact the competent state authority.

If you completed your training as a pharmacist in another EU country, in a signatory state to the European Economic Area (EEA) or in Switzerland, the authorities of the respective state are responsible.

You can prove that you have successfully completed training as a pharmacist in Germany.

Required Documents

- Falls in Ihren Zeugnissen durch Heirat oder sonstige Änderungen abweichende Namen stehen:
  - Heiratsurkunde,
  - Auszug aus dem Personenstandsregister oder
  - sonstige Nachweise
Alle Nachweise müssen Sie einreichen als:
- amtlich beglaubigte Kopie,
- elektronisches Originaldokument oder
- amtlich beglaubigte elektronische Kopie
Beachten Sie:
- Elektronische Originaldokumente oder amtlich beglaubigte elektronische Kopien müssen über eine qualifizierte elektronische Signatur verfügen.
- Elektronische Kopien ohne qualifizierte elektronische Signatur, zum Beispiel einfache Scans, sind nicht ausreichend.

If you began your training as a pharmacist in the Federal Republic of Germany after October 1, 1987, you can apply for the EU certificate of conformity online or in writing by post to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM).

Online application

Go to the website of the federal portal and complete the online application.
- You need a BundID user account to apply via the federal portal.
Upload your documents directly: either
- as original electronic documents or
- as officially certified electronic copies or
send your documents as officially certified copies by post.
The BfArM will check your application and contact you if there are any queries or incomplete documents.
After a positive review of your application and your documents, you will receive the EU certificate of conformity as an electronically sealed document in your user account mailbox or by post.

Written application

Send an informal letter together with your supporting documents by post to the BfArM.
Please include the following information in the letter:
- Name,
- Address (for sending the certificate),
- e-mail address,
- telephone number,
- optional, if you have previously received an EU certificate of conformity from the BfArM: file number at that time.
The BfArM will check your application and contact you if there are any queries or incomplete documents.
Once your application and documents have been positively reviewed, you will receive the EU certificate of conformity by post.
If you provide your e-mail address, you can also receive the certificate as an electronically sealed document.
