Procedure details

Together with a deletion, you can apply for a license plate reservation for a later re-registration.

You can also apply for the following services in the event of a sale abroad:

  • Issue of a certificate of deletion,
  • Issue of an airworthiness certificate for export to a third country (C of A for Export),
  • Advance notification of the foreign civil aviation authority by the LuftfahrtBundesamt (LBA) or
  • Return of the original airworthiness certificate.

You must state the registration number of the aircraft you wish to have deleted from the aircraft register and upload the required documents.

You can apply for deletion as the owner or owner's representative.

  • You are the registered owner of an aircraft entered in the aircraft register.
  • The application can also be submitted on behalf of the owner.

    Documents that must be submitted in the original:

    • Registration certificate
    • airworthiness certificate
    • Noise certificate

    Documents required when applying for the issue of an airworthiness certificate for export to a third country (C of A for Export):

    • Certificate of Airworthiness issued for a Certificate of Airworthiness for Export to a Third Country (C of A for Export), which must not be older than 60 days
    • Confirmed additional information from the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO)

    Documents required if a return of the original airworthiness certificate is requested by the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt and the aircraft is to be registered within an EASA member state with a valid airworthiness certificate:

To apply for the deletion of the entry in the aircraft register and, if necessary, to apply for further services in the event of a sale abroad, please proceed as follows:

  • If you wish to use an online service:
    • Call up the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de and complete the online application.
    • You can upload your documents directly.
  • If you want to use a form:
    • Go to the website of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation and download the relevant form.
    • You must send your original documents by post to the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt.
  • Before the entry in the aircraft register is deleted, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt will check your application.
  • Once your application has been processed by the authority, you will receive a notification and a fee notice. Once you have paid the fees, you can retrieve the notice of deletion. If requested, you will receive
    • the certificate of deletion,
    • the certificate of airworthiness for export to a third country (C of A for Export)
    • and, if applicable, the original airworthiness certificate will be returned to you.
