Procedure details

Do you have a registered aircraft but no longer have the original documents? You can apply for the following duplicates from the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA):

  • Certificate of airworthiness
  • registration certificate
  • Noise protection certificate

To obtain a duplicate, you must

  • provide details of the aircraft and
  • justify your application.

You can apply for duplicates

  • as the owner
  • or on behalf of the owner.

You can complete the documentation for your aircraft with one or more duplicates.

To apply for a duplicate, you need a legitimate reason such as theft or loss. There may also be other legitimate reasons.

You can apply for duplicates as the owner or as a representative for them.

To obtain a duplicate, please proceed as follows:

Online application:

  • Go to the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de and complete the online application.
  • You can upload your documents directly.
  • Submit the application online.
  • The Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) will check your application.
  • After processing by the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, you will receive a notification and a fee notice.
  • After you have paid the fees, you can retrieve the decision and receive the duplicate(s).

Application by post, fax or e-mail:

  • Call up the relevant form on the LBA website.
  • Complete the form and compile the required documents.
  • The next steps are the same as for the online application.
  • Send all documents to the LBA.
