Procedure details

At the end of their school years, young people have to make a significant effort in terms of orientation and decision-making. In our dynamic education and employment system, new training courses, courses of study and occupational fields emerge almost daily. The increase in decision-making opportunities on the one hand therefore also places increased demands on the orientation and decision-making skills of young people on the other. For this reason, pupils today need more intensive support in the transition from school to work than they did just a few years ago.

Vocational orientation measures (BOM) have proven their worth at special educational support centers and support centers with a focus on learning and are an integral part of the vocational orientation of students.

The overall measure "Transition from special school to work" is available as a vocational orientation measure for the special focus area of intellectual development. It offers pupils with a focus on intellectual development individual support in starting a career. Starting in the pre-final year of vocational school, participants can receive intensive support over the course of up to three years in internships and in preparing for a job outside the workshop for people with disabilities. Specialists from the Integration Specialist Service (IFD) are a constant point of contact for the participants. They take over the acquisition of internships and jobs beyond the threshold of leaving school and accompany the transition into the workplace.

The special schools register vocational orientation measures with the responsible governments.
