Admission to the advanced training examination and registration for the course to become a certified nature and landscape conservationist must be applied for at the government of Upper Franconia.

The advanced training course to become a certified nature and landscape conservationist is an additional qualification for well-trained specialists in the field of nature conservation and landscape management at master craftsman level.
The training course lasts 17 weeks, spread over the period from September to July. This includes two weeks of practical training. The examinations take place during the training weeks. Applications must be submitted to the government of Upper Franconia by June 30 each year.
The training is organized on behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism in close cooperation with the Academy for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management (ANL) Laufen and the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture in Freising.

The basis is a vocational qualification in one of the recognized training occupations of farmer, gardener, forester, hunter, winegrower, fish farmer, animal farmer (with a focus on sheep farming) or hydraulic engineer as well as three years of professional experience.
By way of derogation, candidates may also be admitted to the examination if they can demonstrate by submitting certificates or by other means that they have acquired knowledge, skills and experience that justify admission to the examination.
