The Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) is responsible for operating the fully automated monitoring network for air quality in Bavaria - the "Bavarian Air Hygiene Monitoring System (LÜB)".
The data and evaluations on air quality are published by the LfU and are therefore accessible to the public.
The Bavarian State Office for the Environment has been operating the Bavarian Air Hygiene Monitoring System (LÜB) since 1974 and currently has over 50 measuring stations. They are located close to roads in city centers, on the outskirts of cities and in industrial areas. Measuring stations in rural areas for recording large-scale background pollution and on very heavily congested inner-city roads with "canyon-like" peripheral development (so-called hot spots) round off the measuring network.
The LÜB complies with the EU air quality directives, which were transposed into national law with the 39th BImSchV (Thirty-ninth Ordinance on the Implementation of the Federal Immission Control Act). In addition to air pollutants, meteorological data is also recorded and dust is analyzed for constituents in the laboratory.
The LÜB measurements are supplemented by mobile measurements with air monitoring vehicles and by dispersion calculations. Taking local conditions into account, it is also possible to derive statements on pollution levels at other locations in Bavaria.
The current measurement data and further information can be found on the LfU website (see "Further links").
