Form of the training measure
The seminars are held in courses. The early scheduling of the courses allows participants to plan their dates in good time.

All theoretical and practical seminars are offered in a form suitable for adults. They build on existing viticultural and cellar management experience and therefore differ significantly from the didactics and methodology of the training. They require the participants' own commitment in theory and practice and assume that certain parts of the training will be completed on the participant's own responsibility.

Scope of the seminars

Part 1 Viticulture - period: November - August
- 70 hours of theory (individual days, usually Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
- 30 hours of practice in the vineyard (evenings or Saturdays) (in groups of 6 - 8 people / instruction by master winemakers)
After this seminar, the certificate of competence according to the Plant Protection Act can be taken

Part 2 Cellar management - period: September to March
- 80 hours of theory in the form of weekly courses (Monday to Friday)
- 30 hours of practice in the cellar (in groups of 6 - 8 people / instruction by master winemakers). Practical training in the cellar (in groups of 6 - 8 people / instruction by master winemakers)

Preparation for the "Winemaker" final examination
If the admission requirements are met, interested participants can take the "Winemaker" final examination in accordance with Section 45/2 of the Vocational Training Act.
Additional days (30 hours) are offered to prepare for the written and practical examination.

  • Winegrower as a main or secondary occupation without vocational training as a winegrower
  • Initial training in another profession available

Course fee (excluding accommodation and meals): EUR 1,200

Examination fee: EUR 180 for participation in the final examination in the training occupation of winemaker, admission according to § 45 para. 2 BBiG

    The field of activity of the winemaker extends to environmentally friendly and quality-oriented viticulture, vinification and wine marketing. In all this work, the routine handling and use of machines and equipment is a matter of course.
  • Master winemaker examination; registration
    Registration for school attendance and the master winemaker examination must be made at the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture.
