The purpose of the funding is the dementia-sensitive conversion, modernization and creation of needs-based care places and meeting places in order to meet the demographic challenges.
The Free State of Bavaria provides state funding for investment costs:
Beneficiaries are natural or legal persons who carry out a project within the meaning of No. 1.2 of the funding guideline in the Free State of Bavaria.
The amount of the grant is
Conversion and modernization measures are generally funded through pro rata financing of up to 60 percent of the eligible expenditure. In the case of conversion and modernization measures for permanent care places in facilities that are not open to the local social environment, the grant amounts to up to 40 percent of the eligible expenditure as part of pro rata financing. Conversion and modernization measures can only be funded if it can be proven that the care place would otherwise be lost without replacement.
In total, a maximum of up to 90 percent of the eligible expenditure can be financed from grants or other third-party funds. The recipient of the grant must contribute at least 10 percent of the total eligible expenditure.

Please note that from the 2025 financial year, a two-stage selection procedure will be carried out for permanent care facilities in accordance with no. 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 or applications combined with permanent care. If your project is shortlisted for funding, further documents must be submitted in the second phase of the procedure in addition to the above-mentioned documents.

The funding application must be signed and submitted digitally (including all attachments) to the Bavarian State Office for Care. Only plans must be submitted in the original.
Decisions on all applications received within the deadline will be made at the discretion of the Bavarian State Office for Nursing Care and within the framework of the available budget funds, provided that the applications are for long-term care facilities in accordance with No. 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 or applications combined with long-term care. All other applications are processed after receipt by the Bavarian State Office for Nursing and decided within the scope of the available budget funds.
Since the 2025 financial year, a two-stage selection procedure has been carried out for long-term care facilities in accordance with No. 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 or applications combined with long-term care. If your project is shortlisted for a grant, further documents must be submitted in the second stage of the procedure.
The application deadline for funding applications is October 31 of the respective previous year, provided that the applications are for long-term care facilities in accordance with No. 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 or applications combined with long-term care.
All other applications must be submitted by October 31 of the current funding year at the latest. However, it is recommended to submit the application as soon as possible, as the available budget is limited. Applications under no. 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.2.4 and no. 2.2.5 will be given priority.
For example, if you would like to submit an application for funding for the funding year 2026, the deadline for permanent care facilities in accordance with no. 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 or applications combined with permanent care is 31.10.2025. All other applications for funding can be submitted by October 31 of the current funding year at the latest.
Projects that have already begun are excluded from funding.
It should be noted that there is no entitlement to funding under grant law.
The Free State of Bavaria supports measures to establish and expand new outpatient assisted living communities for adults in need of care (start-up funding).
The Free State of Bavaria promotes the modernization of rental housing in apartment buildings as well as care places in inpatient care facilities in accordance with SGB XI in accordance with the guidelines for the Bavarian Modernization Programme.
Municipalities, project sponsors, associations, housing companies and other interested parties can obtain information and individual advice on assisted living communities, day care or innovative forms of living and care.
As part of the "Self-determined living in old age - SeLA" directive, the Free State of Bavaria promotes the development of housing and support measures for self-determined living in old age.
