A veterinary clinic is a practice that is managed by a registered veterinarian and is also used for the inpatient examination, treatment and accommodation of animals. It extends the diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities of the veterinary practice.

The designation "veterinary clinic" may only be used with the approval of the Bavarian State Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons. It will be granted on application and after review if the applicant veterinarian in private practice can prove that the staff, premises and equipment of his/her clinic meet the minimum requirements set out in these guidelines.

The application must be submitted to the district veterinary association in whose area the veterinary clinic is to be located. The application must be accompanied by true-to-scale planning documents.
