Artists' social insurance; notification in case of stay abroad

If you stay or work abroad for a longer period of time, this may affect your German social insurance. You must report any change in your situation to the Künstlersozialkasse in good time.

Procedure details

You are insured under the German social security system if you have your place of residence and place of work within the Federal Republic of Germany.

If you move your place of residence or activity abroad, the Künstlersozialkasse (KSK) must check your insurance.

To ensure that your insurance coverage is guaranteed and that you can take out additional foreign insurance if necessary, you should clarify this issue before you move or work abroad if possible.

You must currently be subject to compulsory insurance via the KSK or eligible for subsidies and have moved your place of residence and/or work abroad.

    • Vertragsunterlagen:
      • Aus den Unterlagen sollte die Tätigkeit und der Zeitraum der Auslandstätigkeit hervorgehen.
    • Reiseunterlagen:
      • Sie können eine Alternative zu den Vertragsunterlagen sein, um den Zeitraum des Auslandsaufenthaltes oder der Auslandstätigkeit nachzuweisen.
    • Entscheidung zum Versicherungsstatus der Krankenkasse oder der Deutsche Verbindungsstelle Krankenversicherung - Ausland (DVKA)
    • Meldebescheinigung des Einwohnermeldeamtes

There are no costs for you. If you plan to stay or work abroad for a longer period of time, notify the KSK of the period of time and the reason for your stay abroad.

  • Visit the KSK website and fill out the "Notification of Stay Abroad" form.
  • Print out the completed form, sign it and send it to KSK with the required documents about the stay abroad.
  • Please respond to any queries promptly.
  • If you receive a request to report your stay abroad to other offices, please do so immediately.
  • You may receive a hearing letter informing you of the consequences of your stay abroad.
  • If the situation described therein is not correct or if you are informed of any missing documents, please submit the documents or corresponding information immediately.
  • -At the conclusion of the procedure, you will receive a notification of your insurance status.

There are no costs for you.

Inform the KSK about your stay abroad as soon as it has been determined. In any case, however, before the start of your stay abroad.

Depending on workload, usually 8 weeks.

  • Contradiction. Not all stays abroad also have legal implications. If there is a stay abroad with legal implications, you can find detailed information on how to file an appeal in the notification.
