Description
Purpose
Lunchtime supervision is run by the local authority or independent providers and guarantees reliable care for children after the scheduled end of lessons. It is a social and recreational educational childcare program.
Object
Lunchtime supervision does not replace the tasks of after-school care centers, day care centers associated with special schools and similar facilities. It is not a continuation or supplement to the curriculum, but it can be integrated into parts of school life. The range of childcare services depends on the staffing and equipment available.
Recipient of funding
The recipient of the grant is the provider of the school expenses or another independent provider.
Type and amount
For lunchtime childcare facilities, state subsidies of between EUR 4,456 and EUR 12,731 per group can be granted in the 2025/2026 school year, depending on the form of provision.
Requirements
The short form of lunchtime supervision guarantees reliable care for the children after the scheduled end of lessons until around 2.00 pm. Homework can be completed on a voluntary basis. The funding here amounts to EUR 4,456 per group in the 2025/2026 school year.
In addition to lunchtime supervision until around 2.00 p.m., extended lunchtime supervision can also be offered with supervision times until at least 3.30 p.m. and with reliable homework supervision. Funding of EUR 9,548 can be granted for this in the 2025/2026 school year.
The increased funding rate of EUR 12,731 per group in the 2025/2026 school year can also be provided for extended lunchtime supervision if the following time and quality-related requirements are met
- reliable homework supervision
- extended childcare hours until 4.00 p.m. in principle
- the opportunity to have lunch
- a pedagogical concept for the childcare services agreed between the provider and the school management,
- A learning and support program, an artistic-creative program or a sports and exercise program must be set up for the group for at least four hours per week. This requirement does not have to be met if the group is set up at a special school.

Applications for state funding must be submitted by the provider by the specified application deadline for the following school year via the school management and the responsible state education authority - directly in the case of special schools - to the district government, which will review and approve the applications and allocate the funds. At a specified time after the start of the school year, a report of the pupils actually participating and the groups set up must be submitted to the district government via the state education authority (or directly in the case of special schools).
