Lunchtime supervision is set up depending on demand and regional circumstances.
Lunchtime supervision is provided by local authorities or independent providers and guarantees reliable care for children after school until around 2.00 pm. It is a social and recreational educational childcare service. Homework can be done on a voluntary basis.
Under the same conditions as lunchtime supervision until around 2.00 p.m., extended lunchtime supervision can also be offered with supervision times until at least 3.30 p.m. and with reliable homework supervision.
It is also possible to receive an increased funding rate per group and school year for extended lunchtime care if certain time and quality-related requirements are met. In addition to the existing requirement for extended lunchtime supervision that reliable homework supervision takes place, extended supervision must be guaranteed until 4 p.m., the opportunity to have lunch must be provided and the provider must submit a pedagogical concept for the supervision services that has been agreed with the school management. In addition, a learning and support program, an artistic-creative program or a sports and exercise program must be set up for the group for at least four hours per week. The latter requirement does not have to be met if the group is set up at a special school.
For more information on lunchtime supervision, please contact your school or visit the website of the Ministry of Education (see "Further links").
The Free State of Bavaria supports lunchtime supervision groups in order to provide reliable care for children after the end of the school day.
