The degree course "Diplom-Verwaltungswirt/-in (FH)" in Correctional Services imparts the skills and knowledge required for the work of a civil servant at the third qualification level in the field of correctional services. Graduates should be able to cope with the diverse and demanding tasks of the job description.

The specialist course lasts a total of approx. 20 months and takes place in two sections at the Department of Administration of Justice at the University of Applied Sciences for the Civil Service in Starnberg. The theoretical sections are accompanied by two practical work placements at Bavarian prisons lasting a total of approx. 16 months in order to ensure practical relevance. This form of dual study program provides an ideal combination: Sound economic, legal, psychological and sociological knowledge and at the same time deeper insights into the practice of prison administration at a Bavarian prison. The close link between theory and practice prepares students optimally for their future careers in just three years of training. Depending on the needs of the prison administration, around 25-30 students are currently recruited every two years on September 1.

Recruitment requirements:

Unrestricted entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, general higher education entrance qualification or an educational level recognized as equivalent by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts (e.g. master craftsman's examination and equivalent advanced vocational training examinations)
German citizenship
Loyalty to the constitution
Age limit: not yet 45 years of age at the time of recruitment
Health suitability
Suitability of character
Successful participation in the special selection procedure of the state personnel committee and in the separate selection procedure of the respective division

The study program first requires the establishment of a civil servant relationship on revocation with a Bavarian employer. This employer then assigns the civil servant to study at the university.

The first prerequisite for establishing a civil servant relationship is the passing of a state-wide selection procedure in which all applicants in a year group must participate.
