The Virtuelle Berufsoberschule Bayern (VIBOS) makes it possible to complete the vocational baccalaureate in two years in a blended-learning course (online teaching, classroom teaching and self-study with online learning materials). It is a course that makes consistent use of modern means of communication. The vocational baccalaureate that can be obtained at VIBOS is equivalent to the qualification obtained at a full-time BOS. The key feature of VIBOS is the flexibility it offers. Lessons take place in the evenings via the Internet and teaching materials can be accessed online around the clock.

This provides the ideal conditions for taking the vocational baccalaureate while working or bringing up children. Lessons are based on a powerful learning management system that offers a wide range of communication options (chat, forum, database, wiki, online meeting). In addition, face-to-face events are held in Erlangen on predetermined Saturdays.

The courses at VIBOS are designed so that they can be completed while working and start annually.

The main courses at VIBOS (technical, business and social studies) start in September. They are designed to last two years.

The preliminary course lasts six months and starts in February.

Participants who achieve at least a grade 3 in all subjects of the preliminary course do not have a probationary period in year 12 of the Berufsoberschule (BOS). There is no probationary period for the main courses at VIBOS.

Places on the VIBOS course are limited. We cannot guarantee that places will still be available if you register at short notice.

To take part in the VIBOS course, you must have a secondary school leaving certificate and you must provide proof of your professional qualifications. You can do this as follows:

  • Completed vocational training of at least two years in a recognized training occupation within the meaning of the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code
  • Completed at least two years of school-based vocational training with a state final examination
  • Passed an employment examination in a career path of the intermediate or higher technical or non-technical service or a service entry examination for the intermediate technical service
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience
  • At least "successfully" completed practical training at a technical secondary school

Registration for the VIBOS courses takes place via an online booking system on the VIBOS website.

Together with the registration form, please submit a copy of your certificate of parentage or birth certificate and, if applicable, a marriage certificate or extract from the family register in the event of a change of name since birth, as well as certified copies of your secondary school leaving certificate and proof of relevant vocational training.

As soon as registration is complete, we will activate the course for you. The VIBOS team will be happy to provide you with personal advice and answer any questions you may have.

The preliminary course costs EUR 175.00 per user.

A main course costs 350.00 EUR per user (2 courses are necessary, so that the total costs up to the Fachhochschulreife amount to 700.00 EUR)

Access to the digital learning materials without tutorial support costs EUR 50.00.

Registration for the first year of the course can be made until the end of July of the previous course year, subject to availability.

Participants in the first year of the course must have re-registered for the second year of the course by the beginning of July.

You can also take part in the course if you do not live in Bavaria. To access the learning materials and take part in the online sessions, all you need is an internet connection and a device. There is no compulsory attendance at the lessons; regular attendance at both the face-to-face lessons in Erlangen and the online lessons is recommended. You only have to be in Erlangen for the exams.
