Procedure details

The Trade Supervisory Office at the Government of the Upper Palatinate advises and monitors companies on the implementation of the Dangerous Goods Ordinance for Road, Rail and Inland Waterways and the Dangerous Goods Ordinance for Sea, insofar as the companies are senders, shippers, carriers, etc. of dangerous goods.

Some goods that are transported as part of goods traffic pose considerable risks to drivers, the general public, the environment and rescue services. Under certain circumstances, accidents can lead to disasters.

Dangerous goods include flammable liquids, explosives, chemicals, hospital waste and infectious materials. Special regulations therefore exist for the transportation of these goods.

Since September 1, 2022, the Trade Supervisory Office at the Government of Upper Palatinate has been responsible for monitoring the regulations for road, rail, inland waterway and sea transport in companies throughout Bavaria.

Dangerous goods must be securely packaged, labeled according to their hazardous properties (e.g. explosives, pressurized gases, flammable liquids) and transported under special safety precautions.

Companies that transport, load or ship large quantities of dangerous or particularly dangerous goods must appoint a dangerous goods officer who is specially trained for this task. Within the companies, the trade inspectorate monitors compliance with the transportation regulations and thus makes a significant contribution to protecting the public and the environment.

The Trade Supervisory Office at the Government of Upper Palatinate:

  • is the technical point of contact for the dangerous goods officers to be appointed by the companies,
  • advises those involved in the transportation of dangerous goods, e.g. consignors, carriers, vehicle drivers, etc.
  • monitors the appointment of a dangerous goods officer in the companies.
