Teacher training is divided into three phases. After a theoretically sound, academic education in the subject sciences (including subject didactics) and educational sciences at universities or state institutes, a two-year, predominantly practical training takes place in the preparatory service at the placement schools and in the seminar.
The Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs assigns trainee teachers, specialist teachers and support teachers to the administrative districts. The responsible government then determines the place of employment and makes the assignment to seminars. In principle, any primary or secondary school can be the place of employment. The preparatory service begins each September with the new school year. It is divided into two phases, each lasting 12 months.
The first phase of training includes
On two (GS/MS) weekdays, the trainee teachers of the GS or MS attend the seminar events. They take place at schools in the Studienseminar district. On the remaining three days of the week, the trainee teachers work at their placement school (lessons, work placement, observation). Candidate subject teachers and support teachers only attend the seminar on one day of the week.
The second stage of training comprises
The preparatory service ends with the successful completion of the second state examination or the state employment examination as a specialist or support teacher.
During the preparatory service, the head teachers and seminar leaders of trainee primary and secondary school teachers as well as those of trainee specialist and support teachers have various duties of notification towards the responsible government (e.g. submission of seminar forms, notification of observations). In certain cases, the approval of the responsible government is also required (e.g. for special events or participation as an accompanying person in a school hostel or youth hostel stay or on a teaching and study trip). An application for official use must be submitted to the responsible government.
The forms for notifications and applications are available under "Forms".
Specialist teachers are also employed at primary, middle, special and secondary schools. Support teachers are employed at primary, secondary and special schools.
In order to qualify for the teaching profession at elementary school, students must have completed their academic training at university and have completed their practical training in a seminar and at the host school.
In order to qualify for the teaching profession at secondary schools, students must have completed their academic training at university and have completed their practical training at a seminary and at the host school during their preparatory service.
The practical training for the teaching profession for special schools is supervised by the government. Notifications and applications during the preparatory service must be submitted to them.
