The conformity assessment of a measuring instrument in accordance with harmonized directives, i.e. 2009/23/EC for non-automatic weighing instruments or 2004/22/EC for another 10 measuring instrument categories, replaces the previous initial verification. Instead of the competent verification office, a notified body selected by the manufacturer confirms the conformity of the manufactured measuring instrument with the directive in the form of a certificate of conformity after testing it. In this way, the notified body supports the manufacturer in issuing an obligatory written declaration of conformity, which also lists other directives observed by the manufacturer.
The Bavarian State Office for Weights and Measures is a notified body with the identification number 0104 for selected conformity assessment procedures and measuring instruments.
Further information can be found on the website of the Bavarian Conformity Assessment Body (link see "Further links").
Information on the conformity assessment procedure in accordance with Directives 2004/22/EC and 2009/23/EC can be found under "Further links".
The fee regulation for the services of the conformity assessment body at the Bavarian State Office for Weights and Measures can be found under "Further links".
Anyone using new or renewed measuring devices must notify the competent verification office no later than six weeks after commissioning.
Measuring devices used in commercial transactions (e.g. in trade), in medicine, in occupational safety and environmental protection and by the police must be calibrated.
