Teachers who have passed their state examinations in Bavaria and are not on a waiting list, as well as applicants from outside Bavaria who have a recognized teaching qualification, can apply to the responsible government for employment as teachers at primary and secondary schools, special schools and vocational schools (excluding FOSBOS).
Free applicants are applicants who have acquired their teaching qualification in another German federal state or another state of the European Union or who are no longer on a waiting list in Bavaria (even with a Bavarian state examination), who have initially waived employment after successfully completing a second qualification or who have completed an adaptation course in accordance with § 11 EGRiLV-Lehrer and wish to be employed in the state school service of the Free State of Bavaria.
Applicants for the state school service who have acquired their teaching qualification in another German federal state or another state of the European Union will receive a comparative grade together with the recognition of the teaching qualification or the reference to a necessary subsequent qualification, which is decisive for future employment.
With this grade, the applicant then competes with teachers in Bavaria who have completed their training in the year in which they apply for employment.
For state primary and secondary schools as well as special schools, the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs determines the applicable recruitment grades each year before the start of the recruitment campaign (announcement: around mid-July on the homepage of the State Ministry).
For vocational schools (excluding FOSBOS), a direct recruitment procedure takes place first, followed by an allocation procedure for recruitment. The final recruitment grade results from this procedure. Further information can be found under "Further links" under "Information for non-Bavarian applicants without a permanent position".
Teachers who have acquired their teaching qualification in another German federal state or another state of the European Union must have their teaching qualification recognized for Bavaria before they can participate in the recruitment process. The Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs is responsible for this.
For teachers who are permanently employed in the state education service of their country of origin in the current school year, prior clearance of the teacher for the desired recruitment date by the personnel management authority of the country of origin is an absolute prerequisite for participation in the recruitment procedure in Bavaria. In the case of teachers with civil servant status, it should be noted that immediate or future civil servant status in Bavaria is not guaranteed. Applicants who intend to return to their country of origin at a later date should obtain detailed information about this from their current employer.
Proof of two measles vaccinations by means of a certified copy of the vaccination card or a medical certificate confirming immunity against measles or documentation assistance from the school management as proof of sufficient measles protection in accordance with Section 20 (9) of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) (the start of employment can only take place if corresponding proof has been provided)
The application for employment must be sent to the responsible authority together with all the necessary documents. The governments are the responsible recruitment authorities for teachers at primary and secondary schools, subject teachers and support teachers wishing to work in Bavaria.
A decision on the forwarding of your application to the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs is only possible after receipt of the aforementioned documents.
Free applications from special education teachers should be sent to the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Department III.6. The form required for this will be provided by the State Ministry on request.
As a matter of principle, independent applicants are also included in the procedure for recruiting teachers throughout Bavaria in line with demand. Therefore, there is no guarantee that a successful open application will guarantee employment in the administrative district in which the application is submitted.
Teachers who received a recruitment offer in a previous recruitment process and were included in the needs-based teacher recruitment, but did not accept the recruitment offer, can in principle apply for recruitment in a government district of their choice. However, applying for a specific administrative district does not mean that these applicants are excluded from the needs-based teacher recruitment and will be employed in this administrative district. The selection of teachers to be recruited in a district other than the desired administrative district is based on the relevant legal requirements and relevant state parliament resolutions. This also ensures that mothers or fathers or family reunifications are always given preferential treatment and that the social aspirations of the state are taken into account as far as possible.
If you wish to teach at vocational schools, applicants with a teaching qualification for vocational schools or (for teaching at technical and vocational secondary schools or business schools) with a teaching qualification for grammar schools should send their application directly to the State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. In the direct application procedure, they also apply to the schools for which positions are advertised.
In the area of primary and secondary schools as well as specialist and support teachers, applications received by the government by May 20 of the respective year can be considered.
In the area of special schools (teaching degree for special education), applications received by the State Ministry by May 15 of the respective year can be considered.
In the area of vocational schools, the direct application process usually begins at the end of April and lasts until mid-June. Applications received by the State Ministry by June 30 of the respective year can be considered for the allocation procedure.
Apart from temporary contracts, recruitment only takes place at the beginning of the new school year.
After the recruitment grades have been announced, applicants will be notified in writing by the hiring government by the beginning of August.
Before employment in the Bavarian school service, in particular as a civil servant, a check of health suitability must be carried out.
After the age of 45, employment as a Bavarian civil servant requires the approval of the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Home Affairs in accordance with Art. 48 of the Bavarian Budget Code. In the recruitment procedure (for full employment), the exception to the age limit applies under the conditions described in more detail in the information sheet for the teacher exchange procedure. It is therefore also possible to apply as part of the recruitment procedure (open application).
