Procedure details

The propagator of scions or grafts applies for certification of his propagation material. The certification body checks the plausibility of the information provided. During the vegetation period, it checks the varietal purity, varietal typicity and health status of the mother vine stocks used for the production of scions and the vine nursery areas on which the grafted vines are cultivated. Furthermore, the certification body checks the quantity and quality of the sorted and bundled goods before placing the scions or grafts on the market.

The propagator of vine planting material must be registered with the relevant competent authority (= certification body). This is the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture, Department of Wine Law.

Cost rate € 0.70 per acre or part thereof of the stock of mother vines registered for recognition. Cost rate € 3.50 per 1,000 units or part thereof of the vines inspected in vine nurseries.
