For wine products such as (plain) wine, country wine, quality wine, Prädikat wine, liqueur wine, semi-sparkling wine and sparkling wine, certain analytical minimum values (e.g. total alcohol content) or maximum values (e.g. total sulphurous acid) must be complied with. In practice, these values may not be reached or may be exceeded. Errors or deviations can also occur in the designation or cellar treatment, which can be sanctioned (approved) in exceptional cases.

The deviation from the applicable regulations must be minor and the composition of the product must be harmless to health. In addition, there must be a particular undue hardship.

An informal application must be submitted to the responsible government.

Depending on the quantity of wine concerned and the severity of the deviation, from EUR 25 to EUR 500.
In addition, there are the expenses for any necessary investigations by the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety.
