EU foreigners may be obliged to provide proof comparable to the German certificate of good conduct (e.g. an official certificate of good conduct or good character or an extract from the criminal record of the home country or an equivalent document). This proof must be requested from the competent authority in your home country.
If you are an EU foreigner and require a German certificate of good conduct for official or private purposes, you can apply for this from the local authority responsible for you. Further information can be found under "Related topics".
Nationals of other member states of the European Union who live in Germany can apply for a certificate of good conduct that provides information on the contents of both the Federal Central Criminal Register and the criminal record of their home member state. Further information can be found under "Related topics" - "Certificate of good conduct; applying for a European Certificate of Good Conduct".
The European Certificate of Good Conduct does not have to be applied for. When a certificate of good conduct is issued to nationals of other EU Member States, the entries in the criminal record of the Member State of origin are recorded in full.
