Health course for people with statutory health insurance; applying for a subsidy

If you have statutory health insurance, your health insurance fund will contribute to the costs of health courses under certain conditions.

Your health insurance company can pay you a subsidy towards the cost of prevention courses.

Prevention courses are available in the areas of exercise, nutrition, stress management and substance abuse. These health courses are designed to motivate and support you in leading a healthy lifestyle.

You can find out which health courses your health insurance company subsidizes directly from your health insurance company - for example, on your health insurance company's website. They will also tell you how much the subsidy is. As a rule, health insurance companies support up to 2 health courses per insured person per year.

You can choose a health course yourself. The prerequisite is that it is certified. The health insurance companies indicate the relevant courses on their website. The health insurance company can also provide a subsidy for certified online courses.

Doctors can recommend that insured persons take part in a health course.

You can apply for a subsidy for a health course for yourself or your child if

you have statutory health insurance;
your child is at least 6 years old;

You have regularly attended the health course.

Most health insurance companies will contribute to the course fees if you have attended at least 80 percent of the course. If you are unable to regularly attend courses lasting several weeks, compact courses are possible in many cases. In this case, you must apply to your health insurance company for a subsidy before attending the course.

The health course is certified. The health insurance companies have commissioned the Central Prevention Testing Center to test and certify health courses.

You can usually find out whether a health course is subsidized and, if so, how much, directly from the course provider or your health insurance company.

You can apply for a subsidy for health courses by post or - with many health insurance companies - in person at the office or online.

Choose a certified health course from the range offered by your health insurance company or clarify with the provider or your health insurance company whether you can receive a subsidy.
You pay the course fee to the course provider, attend the course regularly and obtain a certificate of attendance from the course provider.
Fill in the application form from your health insurance company and submit it to your health insurance company together with the confirmation of attendance from the course provider.
Your health insurance company will check whether you are eligible for a subsidy and will pay you the amount.

You pay the course fee directly to the course provider. You do not have to pay anything for the application for a cost subsidy from your health insurance company.
