Description
An unmanned free balloon ("weather balloon") may only be operated with the permission of the state in which the ascent takes place. Prior permission must therefore be obtained from the competent aviation authority for the release of unmanned free balloons.
The following information must be provided to the aviation authority:
- Technical data of the balloon
- Classification of the balloon (light/ medium/ heavy)
- Number of payload packages
- Launch location (coordinates)
- Release period (date/time)
Requirements
An unmanned free balloon may only be operated if persons or property are not endangered when the balloon or part of it, including the payload, hits the earth's surface.
