The "Experience the food trade" project gives school pupils an insight into the food trade. Qualified food craftspeople can apply to take part in the project.
The "Experience the food trade" project aims to teach pupils in years 7 to 9 at secondary schools and intermediate schools about the food trade by visiting food artisans and learning to appreciate regional foods.
It is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. Participating schools receive free teaching materials on the food trade and can use them to prepare for and follow up the visit to a food artisan. At a baker, brewer and maltster, butcher, cheesemaker/milk technologist, cook, confectioner, miller or winemaker/wine technologist in the school's local area, the pupils produce a Bavarian or regional specialty themselves. They learn first-hand how different foods are produced and gain an insight into the food trade and its fields of activity.
Qualified food artisans who would like to take part in the project and introduce pupils to the food trade can apply to the responsible government. Participating food craftspeople receive an allowance for carrying out the school visit.
Interested food artisans can submit an informal application to the responsible government to participate in the project. Once they have been accepted into the project, the government will provide the schools with the contact details of the food artisan company so that they can get in touch.

The company is responsible for contacting the locally responsible food inspection authority on the occasion of the school visit. The requirements of the competent food inspection authority for the school visit must be complied with.
