The "Experience food craftsmanship" project gives pupils an insight into how food craftspeople produce Bavarian specialties and they are allowed to work with them themselves. Participation in the project can be applied for by the teacher.
The "Experience the food trade" project aims to introduce pupils in years 7 to 9 at secondary schools to the food trade by visiting food craftsmen and women and learning to appreciate regional foods.
It is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. Participating schools receive free teaching materials on the food trade and can use them to prepare for and follow up the visit to a food artisan. At a baker, brewer and maltster, butcher, cheesemaker/milk technologist, cook, confectioner, miller or winemaker/wine technologist in the school's local area, the pupils produce a Bavarian or regional specialty themselves. They learn first-hand how different foods are produced and gain an insight into the food trade and its fields of activity. The food artisans who supervise the pupils are qualified through a master craftsman's examination or instructor qualification and have received an introduction to the project.
Interested schools contact their government and receive suggestions for suitable food crafts businesses in their region. The offer is free of charge for schools.
The project is suitable for supporting the implementation of the PLUS curriculum for middle and secondary schools.
Students in grades 7 to 9 at middle and secondary schools can apply to participate.
Interested teachers should contact the responsible government.
They receive the teaching materials and are put in touch with a nutrition craftsperson in their area to arrange an appointment.
