Examination requirements

The examination requirements for the individual examination areas and the training framework plan can be found in the Ordinance on Vocational Training for Farmers.

The final examination takes place at the end of the vocational training. The time frame is determined by the competent authority.

The final examination covers

  • the skills, knowledge and abilities specified in the general training plan and
  • the subject matter to be taught at the vocational school, insofar as it corresponds to the skills, knowledge and abilities specified in the general training plan.

The final examination is divided into a written part and an in-company part.

The written examination is conducted in the following examination subjects on one day. Questions and tasks relating to practical cases must be answered:

  • Plant production: 90 minutes
  • Animal production: 90 minutes
  • Economic and social studies: 90 minutes

In the company examination , the candidate should demonstrate that he or she understands operational contexts and can apply and transfer the skills and knowledge acquired in a practical manner. In a maximum total of seven hours, the candidate should complete one examination task from plant production and one from animal production.

When applying for admission to the final examination, the candidate can select 2 branches of business for the operational examination in both plant and animal production.

Admission to the final examination must be applied for with the responsible government. The government in whose jurisdiction the training company is located, for example, is responsible:

  • for trainees, the location of their training company is decisive
  • for trainees at the Weihenstephan dual university, the relevant location is "Pfaffenhofen a.d. Ilm", i.e. the responsibility of the government of Upper Bavaria
  • for trainees at the dual university in Triesdorf, the relevant location is "Triesdorf", i.e. the responsibility of the government of Middle Franconia
  • for examination candidates participating in the Farmer training program, the location of the supplementary seminar is decisive
  • for examination applicants who are seeking admission based on their practical experience without participating in the Farmer training program, the place of residence is decisive

Admission to the final examination (§ 43 Vocational Training Act - BBiG)

Admission to the final examination is granted to

  • who have completed the training period or whose training period ends no later than two months after the examination date,
  • who have taken part in the prescribed intermediate examinations and have submitted a training certificate signed by the trainer and trainee in accordance with Section 13 (7) BBiG and
  • whose vocational training relationship is entered in the register of vocational training relationships or is not entered for a reason for which neither the trainees nor their legal representatives are responsible.

Admission in special cases (§ 45 Para. 2 Vocational Training Act - BBiG)

Anyone who can prove that they have worked in the occupation in which the examination is to be taken for at least one and a half times the prescribed period of training will also be admitted to the final examination.

Periods of professional activity also include periods of training in another relevant training occupation. Proof of one and a half times the minimum period may be waived in whole or in part if it can be credibly demonstrated by submitting certificates or by other means that the applicant has acquired the professional competence that justifies admission to the examination.

Foreign educational qualifications and periods of professional activity abroad must be taken into account

  • In the case of an application for consideration of disability-specific concerns, a comprehensive justification and a specialist medical certificate must be enclosed.

Apprentices: The application forms are sent to the training companies by the responsible government.

Participants in the farmer training program: The application forms are sent to all interested parties by the educational advisors at the offices for food, agriculture and forestry.

Applicants seeking admission in special cases (in accordance with § 45 Para. 2 BBiG) are requested to contact the responsible government by telephone or e-mail.

There is no fee for admission within the framework of dual training (§§ 43 and 45 Para. 1 BBiG).

An examination fee of EUR 180 is charged for admission in accordance with Section 45 (2) BBiG.

The application must be submitted by December 31 of the previous year of the final examination.
