The test engineers must prove their professional suitability by passing an examination. The government of Lower Bavaria is responsible for checking the requirements and registering for the examination. The monitoring organization that employs the applicant will register the applicant for the examination.

The applicant as a test engineer must fulfill the following requirements in order to register for the examination:

  • be at least 23 years old
  • be mentally and physically fit and reliable,
  • have a driving license for motor vehicles of all categories, except categories D and D1, and have not been banned from driving under § 25 of the Road Traffic Act or § 44 of the Criminal Code or have had their driving license taken into custody, seized or confiscated under § 94 of the Code of Criminal Procedure,
  • have successfully completed a course of study in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or electrical engineering at a university or public or state-recognized university of applied sciences located within the scope of this Ordinance or at a university recognized as equivalent,
  • have taken part in a training course lasting at least six months which meets the requirements of the training and further training plan published by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport with the approval of the supreme state authorities in the Verkehrsblatt (the duration of the training can be reduced to three months if proof of at least three years of full-time professional activity as a motor vehicle expert is provided),
  • not be entrusted by any other monitoring organization,
  • work full-time as a motor vehicle expert.

The monitoring organization at which the applicant is employed submits an application for admission to the examination of professional suitability. The application must be accompanied by the required documents listed below. The Government of Lower Bavaria will check the application for completeness and that the requirements are met. The monitoring organization is responsible for registering with the examination board. After checking the documents submitted, the Government of Lower Bavaria confirms the application to the examination board.

Participation fees for exam: 481,00 EUR

The documents for the summer test must be submitted to the Government of Lower Bavaria in January of each year and the documents for the winter test in July of each year.

There is a summer examination and a winter examination every year.
