Bavaria is facing considerable demographic changes - in addition to the state-wide ageing of the population, the population will decrease in some sub-regions. As the demographic development differs considerably from region to region, the Bavarian State Statistical Office provides a tool in the form of the regionalized population forecast which - in combination with local expert knowledge - enables a region-specific situation analysis based on current data.
The regionalized population projection of the Bavarian Statistical Office is calculated using a scientifically sound method (with the SIKURS software), which is also used by the Federal Statistical Office, the other statistical offices of the federal states, the statistical offices of most major German cities and the official statistics in the neighbouring countries of Austria and Switzerland. Current results are available at the level of the administrative districts and independent cities, the regions, the administrative districts and for the entire Free State of Bavaria.
In addition to these results, the Bavarian State Statistical Office also provides the demographic mirror for Bavarian municipalities, which provides projected population figures for all Bavarian municipalities. For more information on demographic change in Bavaria, see "Further links".
The Statistical Atlas of Bavaria is undergoing technical revision and is currently not available.
