This is done by way of decisions on complaints against the discontinuation of investigation proceedings ordered by the public prosecutor's offices, but also by way of other complaints about supervision. In addition, joint meetings, reports by the heads of authorities and business audits, as well as constant direct contact between the Public Prosecutor General, including his staff, and the public prosecutor's offices contribute to the effectiveness of the supervision:
- The Public Prosecutor General's Office decides on complaints against discontinuation orders issued by the public prosecutor's offices.
- The Public Prosecutor General is only involved in complaints about misconduct on the part of public prosecutors if the relevant decision of the immediate superior, i.e. the Chief Public Prosecutor, is challenged.
- The public prosecutor's offices are required to inform the Public Prosecutor General's Office immediately and on an ongoing basis of significant events by means of written reports or verbally. In special cases, the Public Prosecutor General's Office will also request reports on individual cases from the public prosecutor's offices on its own initiative in order to gain an early overview of what is happening and to be able to intervene if necessary.
- Supervision also includes carrying out business audits, which take place every 6 years at the individual public prosecutor's offices. In addition to the review of individual proceedings, the organization of the authority, the use of information technology and the use of modern instruments of personnel management and control are also examined.
- The Public Prosecutor General is responsible for deciding and participating in all personnel matters within his district and decides independently on the distribution of budget funds. He is the link between the district public prosecutor's offices and the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice.
