Procedure details

The Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Building and Transport and the district governments recruit state-certified civil engineering technicians as junior staff each year for entry into the civil service career in the second qualification level for the following specialist areas

  • Road operation and traffic management (road foremen and road supervisors)
  • Water management (river foreman)

The preparatory service takes place as a civil servant on revocation and lasts 15 months including the examination period. The training takes place at various offices of the state building or water management administration. It is divided into practical sections and seminars that supplement the knowledge and skills acquired at the technical school and at the training centers.

During the preparatory service, candidates are paid according to the Bavarian pay scale. Successful completion (qualification examination) enables the candidate to be taken on as a probationary civil servant and later for life.
